Is colorguard hard?
- No! It's actually pretty easy with some practice. It seems hard at first because you have never done it. With practice through, you will develop your skills and spinning will become second nature.
Why does the colorguard rehearse more than the marching band?
- We rehearse more because unlike band members must guard members haven't ever spun a flag. Most members have only taken a couple dance classes. So we have to teach you from scratch. Usually it takes summer practices twice a week to get everyone up to speed and ready for band camp.
Can I do this and keep up with school?
- Yes, Absolutely! We start off early having practices in the summer so students don't feel stressed out during the school year. The guard staff encourages ALL students to get tutoring after school if needed. Members are also encouraged to bring homework to do to and from competitions!
Can I do this and have a job?
- Yes! It might get a little bit tough sometimes but the staff is willing to work with students who pay their way through guard. Please contact a staff member ASAP if you have scheduling conflicts!
What is the marching band fee for the colorguard and what does it cover?
- The colorguard fee is $375 for marching band. This covers the uniform cost, any equipment needed, standard marching band fees (transportation, instruction, etc...), a show shirt, guard gloves, a body tight, and jazz shoes.
What isn't covered in the fees?
- The warm up suit (jacket and pants)
- guard section shirt
- fanny pack and dot book (needed for band camp)
- personal roll of white electrical tape
- theraband
- towel or yoga mat
- makeup
Do I have to attend summer practices?
- It is MANDATORY to attend summer rehearsals if you are in town. However, if you have a job, church youth group, or any other conflict notification must be given to the guard instructional staff by June 5th.
Do I have to attend every practice and performance/competition?
- Yes! Marching Band and Winter Guard are both TEAM sports. Not attending will not only jeopardize your spot on the team but it will also let your teammates down. If you have any conflicts please inform the guard instructional staff. Policies are listed in the Color Guard Handbook.
What do I need for band camp?
